Abbie is a young artist that has been a part of the crew volunteering at the New Expression Clarkston location. Here’s a little insight into her heart to serve:
If I could eat fruit for every meal for the rest of my life I totally would!
Why did you decide to become a volunteer in Clarkston?
I love different cultures and I love helping people so it is the perfect mix of those two things. I feel purposed in my heart to work with refugees and when I’m there I know it connects. Clarkston is a beautiful place with beautiful people!
What is your favorite thing to do with New Expression?
I love playing games and dancing with the kids. They could do it for hours and I feel the same way. They have so much energy and we always have a ton of fun!
What has been the most special part of your experience as a volunteer?
I’ve gotten the chance to hear different stories of some of the kids and their families coming here and that has really helped give me a greater understanding of what they’ve had to go through. They talk about what it’s like in their country and why they left and it makes me so grateful for what we have here. I also have loved seeing different kids dance and break loose. It’s beautiful to see that and I love that I get to be apart of it. I feel that I’ve gained a lot of brothers and sisters there.
