Meet Patricia!

January 28, 2016 by Becca Armstrong

Contributed by Promise Farnsworth.

Meet Patricia.

Self described as tall, kind and brown skinned, Patricia is a passionate spokesperson for human rights in her hometown of Selma, AL. She recently traveled to Larkspur, CO to perform at a fund raising event for Something New where she spoke with confidence about John Lewis – someone who inspires her to make a difference and stand up for the people in her own town that can’t speak for themselves.

Her happiest moment was “getting a chance to meet John Lewis!” her favorite part wasn’t asking him for advice, but appreciating him for all he has done and giving him a t-shirt. Another activist who has influenced her is Kylie, a New Expression Volunteer. “She encouraged me to stand up and dance in front of people … when I was feeling nervous, she would come over and dance with me, and give me encouraging words. She would say, ‘you’re a great dancer, you should dance more often.’ ”

Patricia is a senior in high school, a choreographer and spoken word writer with New Expression in Selma.
